WhistlePig Old World is a blend of 12-year-old rye with premium European oak casks - Madeira, Sauternes, Port, Cognac, and Sherry and will be available on June 26, 2015 (2 days after our June 24th tasting!). The Seattle Spirits Society tasted an early cut that was 100% French Sauternes that was only available in limited release.
WhistlePig Old World was tasted at Meeting No. 37 on June 24, 2015. Out of 5, we rated it exceptionally at 4.13. WhistlePig Old World ranks 5th overall in Rye. Costing $116, this spirit is on the pricier side, but well worth the money.
Don't know what to say. Sweet for a rye. Otherwise, this is an unexpected rye heaven to a rye drinker. Begins like a dessert wine, tapers to mild rye on the tongue
This is a pig, with the grace and balance of tightrope walker.
Winey on the nose. Sandalwood and spicy heat on the first pass. Oak on the back of the palate. This is very complex for a rye, but there's still plenty of traditional rye signposts. Buttery on the last pass. I was skeptical of WhistlePig because the prices seem absurd, but the scales have fallen from mine eyes.
Honeysuckle - nose and flavor. Earthy round and full.
A little soil and fresh grass on the nose Honey. Elderflower. I really like this one! Wonderful every day wind down, smooth drinking, relaxing sipper. Doesn't feel like 90 proof.
Sweet, oaky, syrupy. Orange. Kind of muted. Easy drinker, oily, 'big mouth' feel.
