We were introduced to Catoctin Creek Roundstone Rye through a friend who lives near the distillery. He was so eager to have us taste this spirit that he delivered the Society a bottle free of charge. Like the WhistlePig Old World and the Anchor Distilling Old Potrero, the Roundstone Rye is made from 100% rye mash.
Catoctin Creek Roundstone Rye was tasted at Meeting No. 37 on June 24, 2015. Out of 5, we rated it very highly at 3.71.
Nose - sweet taffy, mouth-watering. Taste - wet and smooth, well-balanced whiskey flavor. Finish - delicious sweet lingers with toffee goodness.
Floral, store fruit. A refreshing summer sipper.
Beautiful nose! Incredibly sweet aroma given the rye composition. Smooth upfront. Spice, complex. What a value!
Sweet on the nose. Vanilla extract. Credit to Gavin: BANANA LAFFY TAFFY! Tangy on the palate. Lots of citrus. Really hot but not obtrusive. Pretty floral as you continue to drink. Essence of lilies and a little bit of green bell pepper.
I am so struck by how smooth this is…and I never really use that adjective to describe spirits here at the sss. Its sweet but def not in a terrible way. Tastes kind of like a semi spiced saltwater taffy.
Honey and warm wood nose. Well-balanced with slight citrus hint on finish. Juicy fruit gum.
