This Ballechin is a cask strength, single cask version of the Edradour's heavily peated offering, spending the entirety of it's 14 years in a refill sherry butt.
We tasted Ballechin 14 year single cask at Meeting No. 97 on April 29, 2021. We rated it exceptionally at 4.20 out of 5. Ballechin 14 year single cask ranks 2nd overall in Scotch. At a street price of $144, this spirit is on the pricier side, but well worth the money.
Smells like lays BBQ potato chips. Sweet, rich, really delightful.
The nose on this in one of the richest I've ever nosed. Cedar plank smoked salmon but then the taste is more like savory sweet barbecue sauce but not offensively so like some of the heaviest sherried spirits. Pretty incredible in terms of adjectives that could be used to describe this, but may be a little too much for oomph for a daily drinker.
Nice Smokey sweet flavor. Hints of Carmel
