Oban is regarded as the capital of the Western Highlands, a town that started distilling in 1794. The current distillery was built in the 1890s and Oban has been producing a single malt since then. The distillery has two pot stills, and is one of the smallest in Scotland.
We tasted Oban 18 Limited Edition at Meeting No. 9 on February 28, 2013. We rated it very highly at 3.17 out of 5. Oban 18 Limited Edition ranks 7th overall in Scotch. At a street price of $90, this spirit is on the pricier side given the our rating of it.
Smooth, not a lot of character/depth. Two drops of water brought out some smoothness/pepper.
Very light peat/smokey flavor. Smell hint of iodine. Drop of water adds a spicy kick. Lingers long on my lips.
