We tasted Kilchoman Sanaig at Meeting No. 50 on August 25, 2016. We rated it very highly at 3.47 out of 5, though we had some disagreement among member ratings. Kilchoman Sanaig ranks 25th overall in Scotch. At a street price of $70, this spirit is on the pricier side given the our rating of it.
"You may have been a king, you may have been a pauper, it all taste the same to the worms." - BR A singularity of purpose brings clarity to this dirty earthen smoke.
Peat on the nose. Smells like Islay. Drinks mellower than expected, but hits the right campfire note.
A1 steak sauce, coffee cake, Denali wildfire quenched by a mudslide.
A pleasant surprise with balance and just the right peat. Complex, sweet and very enjoyable!
There are 3 things I could enjoy having my nose in for a good 20 to 30 minutes and this is the only one of them.
Smells like peat-based snuff at first. After a few min it mellows significantly and is much more approachable. Flavor reminds me of creamed corn. I thought I would hate this spirit before I tasted it but it's starting to grow on me. Moved the rating up a notch.
