The Moch was originally released as a limited edition release for the Friends of the Classic Malts in 2012, which is the Diageo fan club, but was released to the general public after that. Moch is Gaelic for dawn, and is supposed to be a lighter entry to Caol Ila than the standard 12 year old.
We tasted Caol Ila Moch at Meeting No. 34 on March 26, 2015. We rated it very highly at 3.34 out of 5. Caol Ila Moch ranks 30th overall in Scotch. At a street price of $65, this spirit is on the pricier side given the our rating of it.
Wow! The flavor is so much more pleasant and balanced than I was expecting. It has a very nice sweetness at the front and a noticeable but not overpowering amount of alcohol. Flavors open up and then mellow.
Campfire, iodine, old band aids and grandad's medicine closet, surrounded by a really sweet package. I really like this scotch. This is a pure beam of Islay. No fuss.
Yum! Spice, butter, pecans and peat. Good balance and lingers with sweat notes.
Calm, consistent mouthfeel & trip across the pallate, cacao, leather, light fruit.
Tastes better than it smells. Lilac and mountain stream taste. Otherwise, burning tire.
