We tasted Del Maguey 100% Tobala at Meeting No. 69 on May 31, 2018. We rated it very highly at 3.50 out of 5, though we had some disagreement among member ratings. Del Maguey 100% Tobala ranks 10th overall in Mezcal. At a street price of $130, this spirit is on the pricier side given the our rating of it.
Smells of cultured butter in a cedar closet. Refreshingly complex taste. Maybe a touch of dried fruit. Not a ton of finish, better just keep drinking.
Rich, caramel, plastic-rubber, earthen
Sour cheddar scents - pungent. But, damn interesting in the throat. The cough syrup of the Del Maguey line. A little sandpaper shavings and hints of ardboard. Need a beach fire to enjoy this thoroughly.
Rotten damp wood smell. Smooth mouthfeel, light taste. Aftertaste of smoke and wood.
