This rare spirit is made from a third distillation of the Del Maguey Minero mezcal once a year during the months of December and January when ripe wild fruit, almonds, and rice are mixed with the special ingredient: the Pechuga!
Del Maguey Pechuga was tasted at Meeting No. 23 on April 24, 2014. Out of 5, we rated it very highly at 3.27. Del Maguey Pechuga ranks 15th overall in Mezcal. Costing $227, this spirit is expensive given the our rating of it.
Fortifying whole grain and wild plantain. Less bright and smokey than other mezcals. Herbal and salty leaving me with a hot head.
Mild, lightly yeasty nose, some earthy barnyard. Rich, smooth, salty and depth. I can't taste the chicken, but that's okay by me.
Quite a bit smoother than the Minero, more oaky or perhaps smokey too. Hint of fruit but not much; no chicken flavor but does taste salty. Nice all around, but $227 nice? Hmmm.
Very light smell, smokey, fruity. Flavor of black licorice, less vibrant flavor, more savory. Salty, smokey flavor. Envision drinking this late at night with friends.
