We tasted El Jolgorio Jabali at Meeting No. 80 on May 29, 2019. We rated it very highly at 3.88 out of 5. El Jolgorio Jabali ranks 2nd overall in Mezcal. At a street price of $250, this spirit is expensive, but worth it.
Fresh jalapeño peppers and sea salt dominate the nose. Super oily, the mouth is covered in an inviting blanket of bacon grease and heavy charcoal smoke. Cream cheese and light herb follow, quickly leading into more fresh peppers and sweet grass. The finish is long and lingers with pleasing smoke and lightly toasted corn. A fantastic dram!
On the nose, cigar lounge, library book glue, beets. Tastes floral, crisp, dry. Not cloying. Very clean angels dancing on the tongue.
Nostalgia: cigarette stained fabric upholstery and rose dew. Burnt toast crumbs.
Whoa! First sniff is cigarette butts in a soup of warm beer. Let it sit for a bit and cigarettes magically turn to rose water. Add 2 drops of water and the rose blooms. Best for a MENSA meeting.
