This rich and balanced peated whisky takes its name from the famous whirlpool north of Islay.
We tasted Ardbeg Corryvreckan at Meeting No. 31 on December 18, 2014. We rated it very highly at 3.07 out of 5, though we had some disagreement among member ratings. Ardbeg Corryvreckan ranks 34th overall in Scotch. At a street price of $75, this spirit is on the pricier side given the our rating of it.
Camphor, smoke, iodine on the nose. Despite the whirlpool name, not much of the sea. This is the fire on the beach that you built to burn down your old gods. Sweet palate under current before you lose yourself in the whirlpool of peat.
Smells so good I want to crawl into the glass. It tastes even better! Tastes of sage grass, peat smoke and more smoke.
Nose nutty and slightly chocolaty like a milky way bar. Taste is complex and nutty.
Nose: pine tar soap Taste: hot! Mouth-filling spice and sweet honey, damp burnt log; licorice. Opens up and smooths with a few drops of water.
School bus exhaust on the tongue - cigar smoke - my eyes are watery, hands shaky... I want more!
