Thompson Willett founded Willett Distilery in 1936, 3 years after the repeal of Prohibition. Willett Family Estate Bottled Bourbon and Rye was introduced in 2008. The 4-year was only introduced in 2016 or later. The Family Estate variety arrives at Barrel Proof in limited distribution, usually at most 12 barrels per batch.
Willett Family Estate Rare Release 4-Year Rye was tasted at Meeting No. 90 on May 28, 2020. Out of 5, we rated it very highly at 3.78. Willett Family Estate Rare Release 4-Year Rye ranks 21st overall in Bourbon. Costing $80, this spirit is on the pricier side, but well worth the money.
Pleasant dessert-like nose. Vanilla pudding was first scent I noticed first. This is an easy to drink rye - spicy but not offensively so.
Strong Rye front, smooth but a little overpowering. Got some nice banana bread notes.
Interesting flavor. Strong sweet bouquet. The increased ABV really affects the up front flavor. Vanilla after note. Pepper up front
