No age statement replacement for the Taketsuru 12 yr. Named after the founder of Nikka – also recognized as the father of Japanese whisky – Masataka Taketsuru. Aged in ex-sherry casks.
We tasted Nikka Pure Malt Taketsuru (NAS) at Meeting No. 54 on December 15, 2016. We rated it very highly at 3.53 out of 5. Nikka Pure Malt Taketsuru (NAS) ranks 8th overall in Japanese Whisky. At a street price of $72, this spirit is on the pricier side, but well worth the money.
Fruity but also straight forward. a fine regular sipper. Best for breaking out the good but not too good stuff.
Light Carmel color, spicy cinnamon, warm peppery finish, hints of leather. Solid.
Light. Pleasant flavor with enjoyable sweetness from the sherry cask exposure. Long complex finish. I could drink this every night and not get tired of it.
Apple notes, then an oaky light start that never quite peaks. Smooth, drinkable, non-distinct. But not in a bad way.
Nose of a highland scotch with a tinge of black licorice. Balanced sweet and spice, keeps the tongue jumping through the finish.
Sweetness on the nose. Slightly spicy on the finish.
Light and zesty, bright fruit but a little prickly and thin. Good, not great.
