Hand-filled at the distillery with 30% of Westland's signature 5-malt new make spirit and 70% peated new make spirit.
We tasted Westland Hand-Filled Cask 395 at Meeting No. 34 on March 26, 2015. We rated it very highly at 3.38 out of 5. Westland Hand-Filled Cask 395 ranks 11th overall in American Whiskey.
Great flavor balanced with a reasonable amount of peat. I would definitely reach for this bottle on a regular basis.
Mild smokey nose. Leathery warm toast - complex flavors not overwhelmed by 109 proof. A little water smooths it out.
Much sweeter syrup than the scotch tonight. Different peat scent - good, just different. Is this the PNW peat, or is that an age statement? Cherry bomb on the back end. Well done!
Vanilla, chocolate, but at 109% alcohol it works best with a dash of water.
