This Charbay is distilled from the Bear Republic Big Black Bear Imperial Stout. The stout was chosen as a source because of the complexity it displays from multiple malts and multiple hops. Aged for 29 months in French Oak.
We tasted Charbay S Hop Flavored Whiskey at Meeting No. 85 on October 24, 2019. We rated it very highly at 3.89 out of 5. Charbay S Hop Flavored Whiskey is the top rated American Whiskey that we've tried. At a street price of $110, this spirit is on the pricier side, but well worth the money.
Round, malty nose with a slice of brewery floor zing. Taste is full beer buzz, slightly mellowed with all that rich malty stout. Chocolate, marshmallow. In. A category of its own - very different and hard to compare to other spirits. Best for surprising a whiskey enthusiast. Solid and not that weird.
Rich syrup of “birit” - I like this one, not in significant quantities, but as an aperitif to finish off the night. Thick mucusey stout. Lovely.
Nose of dirty gym socks. Fun palate, stout and creamy.
