Springbank 15

Single Malt Scotch
15 Years Old
46% ABV
$97

Springbank is a medium peated malt, distilled two and a half times. Springbank is one of the last three remaining Campbeltown distilleries, and dates from the 1820s. It is said that Campbeltown used to claim the title of Whisky Capital of the World, and had as many as 30 distilleries in the late 1700s. Springbank releases spirits under two additional brand names, Longrow and Hazelburn, which are heavily peated and unpeated, respectively.

Springbank 15 was tasted at Meeting No. 9 on February 28, 2013. Out of 5, we rated it very highly at 3.83. Springbank 15 ranks 6th overall in Scotch. Costing $97, this spirit is on the pricier side, but well worth the money.

Tasting Notes

First Tasted at Meeting No. 9 in February 2013
 •  4.0

Pleasant taste, depth without aftertaste. Moderate peat. After H2O, very mellow.

 •  4.0

Hearty and carmel like a Macallan but peaty like an Islay. A drop of water! Smells of light ash.

 •  3.0

Smokey, hangs in the chest, and is warming. With a drop of water, it opens up to be a smooth, lighter finish - honey yellow. Not a favorite scotch.
